Reservoir is a suburb located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It sits 11 km north of the Central Business District of Melbourne, within Darebin city’s local government area.
According to the 2021 census, Reservoir has a population of 51,096.
In 1837, Robert Hoddle surveyed land which became the suburb of Reservoir today.
In 1854, The Rose Shamrock Hotel, previously known as The Rose Shamrock & Thistle Hotel started its operation. Around 1921, the first Reservoir Post Office opened.
In 1863, the suburb was already called Reservoir, which name came from the three water reservoirs — known as the Preston Reservoir — built in the area.
The reservoir supplied fresh water to several suburbs in Melbourne.
Between 1886–189, the Maroondah Aqueduct was built to supply water to the Preston Reservoir.
