Heidelberg is one of the suburbs in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is located 11 kilometers northeast of the central business district of Melbourne and sits within Banyule City’s local government area.

According to the 2021 census, Heidelberg has a population of 7,360.
In 1838, the land at Heidelberg was sold by Crown auction. It was then considered one of the earliest rural allotments in Australia.
By 1840, the town Warringal had been established, Eventually, the name Warringal was changed to Heidelberg. Heidelberg was named after the German city of Heidelberg.
The Heidelberg City Council proposed the suburb’s change in name. However, despite community naming competitions and public debates, the name Heidelberg remained unchanged.
On 19 October 1853, the Post Office opened. It was named Warringal but was changed to Heidelberg in 1865.
