Greenvale is a suburb located in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It sits 20 km north of Melbourne's Central Business District within the local government area of Hume City.
Suburbs surrounding Greenvale are Oaklands Junction, Craigieburn, Yuroke, Roxburgh Park, Bulla, Meadow Heights, Melbourne Airport, and Attwood.
According to the 2021 census, Greenvale has a population of 21,274.
The suburb was named Greenvale after the farm owned by local farmer John McKerchar named "Greenvale".
On January 1871, Greenvale Post Office opened and closed in 1969. In 1996, the post office reopened as Greenvale developed.
In the 1980s Greenvale developed largely. Today, the suburb has two shopping centers, a community center, three primary schools, and two kindergartens.
In 1973, Greenvale Reservoir in the north was built. In 1905, Greenvale Sanatorium was built. It consists of quarantine huts and weatherboard buildings for patients in reduced circumstances. It was isolated from the general public for the treatment of communicable diseases such as tuberculosis.
